Thanks for joining us on this journey of building a consistent habit of reading our Bibles every day. The Bible reading plan we are using this year can be found here: One Year Bible or here on the Bible app. As always, if you miss a day, don’t feel compelled to go back and catch up. Just skip it and start back on today’s date. I am reading the NLT this year, but feel free to use whatever version you prefer. Now here are some thoughts from today’s readings:

Here we see how quickly things can devolve once we give into sin. First Cain is upset with God, then his brother, then he commits murder! Wow! This is an exaggerated example, but isn’t it true in our own lives. It starts with just a little separation from God, then some thoughts, then, before we know it, we are entangled in sins we never thought we would do (or do again).

We aren’t ignorant of the enemy’s devices. That’s why at the first feelings of distance from the Lord, we need to stop ourselves and ask, “what’s going on here?” Stop the slippery slope before it starts by focusing on having an Abel kind of relationship with the Lord and recognizing (and changing) when you feel more like Cain.
